Behind the Screens: What We’re Playing

When we’re not building games, we’re playing them. A lot.

This month, a few members of the Incentive Games team shared what’s been keeping them hooked lately, from immersive VR worlds to multiplayer showdowns.

Alan Lo, Technical Architect

What games have you been playing lately?
“Recently it’s been a lot of Gran Turismo 7 on the PS5. I’m really enjoying the weekly races — the game lets me pick up and play for as long or as short as I want, which fits nicely with a busy life.”

“When I have more time, I’ve also been replaying GTA5 and trying (again) to finally complete it. The adverts for GTA6 inspired me to have another go… but I always end up just exploring the map instead of doing the missions.”

Is there a game you think everyone should try at least once?
“Resident Evil, but in VR. It’s sooooo much more intense.”

What games do you enjoy playing with friends?
“When I’m playing with friends, it tends to be FC25. When there’s more than two of us and we have to play on the same team, it’s both fun and frustrating.”

What game has totally surprised you?
“Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. It’s nostalgic, funny, and just pure fun to play.”

Craig Baxter, Senior Full-Stack Developer

What games have you been playing lately?
“I’ve been playing the Battlefield 6 Beta and Counter-Strike 2. The Battlefield 6 Beta really feels like a return to form; it’s got that same energy that made BF3 and BF4 my favourites. I’ve also been revisiting Counter-Strike after a long break. I used to play back when it was CS:GO, so it’s been fun to jump back in and meet new people.”

Why do you love it, what’s kept you hooked?
“With Battlefield 6, it’s the mix of nostalgia and excitement, it actually feels like classic Battlefield again, which I didn’t expect after some of the weaker entries. For Counter-Strike 2, it’s more about the social side and rediscovering a game I used to love.”

Is there a game you think everyone should try at least once?
“Minecraft, without a doubt. It’s one of those games where so many people wish they could go back and play it for the first time again, just to experience that creativity and discovery all over again.”

Do you have a go-to comfort game for when you want to switch off?
“It used to be Skate 2 but, since I don’t have an Xbox anymore, I’d say games like PEAK or R.E.P.O. now. They’re simple, fun co-op experiences that are easy to relax with.”

What’s been your favourite game of 2025 so far?
“Even though it’s technically still just a Beta, I’d say Battlefield 6. It surprised me in the best way — especially after the disappointment of Battlefield 2042. I just hope the full release on October 10th lives up to the Beta!”

Katie McGarry, Design Manager

What games have you been playing lately?
“Wuthering Waves! I’m a big fan of Gacha games and love the character collecting and team-building elements. As an open-world fantasy RPG, it’s great for exploration and I’m hooked by the emotional storytelling, insane art styles, and fast-paced, fun combat mechanics. It’s easily my new favourite!”

Is there a game you think everyone should try at least once?
“It Takes Two. It’s a magical, heartwarming co-op adventure that will either bring you and your partner (or friend) closer together or have you shouting at each other in hilarious frustration (hopefully the first one!). It drops you into unexpected challenges where you have to rely on each other and put your life in the other person’s hands. With its clever mini-games, bursts of nostalgia, and surprising moments of self-reflection, it’s easy to see why it won Game of the Year in 2021.”

Bonus question: what game will you be playing next?
“Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I’ve heard nothing but great things so far and I can’t wait to try it out. It’s a dark fantasy turn-based RPG with an interesting story, atmospheric environments, and some REALLY creepy-looking enemies.”

Each month, we share a glimpse into what keeps us playing, learning and inspired. From timeless classics to total surprises, these picks reveal what’s capturing our team’s imagination right now and will hopefully spark some inspiration for you too, or at least a touch of gaming FOMO.
